Pengertian Modem
Modem is a device used to connect a computer or computer network to the internet network. The abbreviation "modem" itself comes from the word "modulator-demodulator". The modem is in charge of converting digital signals from the computer into analog signals that can be transmitted over communication channels such as telephone wires, fiber optics, or wireless connections.
In general, the modem has two main functions. First, as a modulator, the modem takes digital data generated by the computer and converts it into an analog signal that can be sent over a physical channel. Second, as a demodulator, the modem takes the analog signal received via the communication channel and converts it back into digital data that can be understood by the computer.
Modems can be used to access the internet through various types of connections, such as DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), cable, fiber optic, or wireless connections such as Wi-Fi or 4G/5G. Modem can also act as a router to connect multiple devices to a local network and share internet connection.
By using a modem, users can send and receive data over the internet network, surf the web, send e-mail, make voice calls via VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), play online games, and perform many other online activities.
