Get to know the Kuntil pig in Indonesia
So far, what we only know about wild boar is the wild boar, even though Indonesia has several species of wild boar. One of them is Wart Pig.
Well, in today's post I want to review one of the Pig species that is nicknamed as having the ugliest face, namely the Warty Pig.
The warty pig, sometimes called the goteng, is a species of wild boar which has the scientific name Sus verrocosus and is of course still related to the domestic pig and wild boar, which comes from the Suidae family.
It has a maximum body length of approximately 190 cm and weighs approximately 108 kg.
The characteristics of the Wart Pig compared to the Boar Boar are that it has a mane on its back neck to the base of its tail, its body fur is black and reddish yellow, and its legs are slimmer and elongated.
The warty pig's habitat is in lowland forest at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level.
Like Pigs in General, Warty Pigs are omnivorous animals that eat plants, roots and tubers, while also eating small animals such as insects, worms and small mammals.
Warty pigs usually live in groups and solitary which are more often active at night (Nocturnal) and also active during the day (Diurnal).
Interesting fact, the mane on his back will rise and rise, then the Warty Pig will make a shrill sound to tell his fellows.
The warty pig once had a population distribution on the island of Madura, but now it is believed to be extinct.
So, now the distribution includes endemic animals that can only be found on the island of Java and Bawean Island, East Java.
Currently, the existence of the warty pig population has decreased, and sadly, until now it has not been included in the list of protected animals. Even the IUCN stipulates the conservation status of Wart Pigs is "Endangered" which means Endangered.
The cause of population decline, besides the threat of hunting, habitat destruction, is also due to frequent conflicts with humans because these animals are pests that like to destroy agricultural fields.
