KNOWING PROTECTED WEAST SPECIES AND UNPROTECTED WEAST SPECIES.

As usual, First of all we have to know what a weasel is.

Well, Weasel is a group of Mammal Animal Species that comes from the Viverridae Family.

Generally, Viverridae Mammals are Nocturnal Animals and usually like to climb in trees (Arboreal).

Generally weasels are predatory animals that like to prey on other animals such as birds, small mammals, and reptiles. However, some are omnivores, besides carnivores, they are also fond of eating fruits (frugivores).

Weasel's habitat is quite extensive and can be found in Forests, Rice Fields, Rural, and even Urban.

Sometimes weasels become enemies by some people, this is because weasels are considered pests that like to steal chickens.

However, now many people have made ferrets as pets, the most commonly kept are the Pandan Weasel, and the Rase Weasel.

In addition to being used as pets, Pandan Civets are also used for the fermentation process of coffee beans called Kopi Luwak.

Bang Lingsang and the otter, aren't they the same?

The answer is Different, Lingsang is a Weasel Species that has the scientific name Prionodon linsang and comes from the subfamily Prionodontinae which is still in the Viverridae family.

While the Otter is a beaver that comes from the subfamily Lutrinae, which is still in the Mustelidae family.

This is because in the past the word Linsang in Javanese was often misunderstood as Otter or beaver.

But it doesn't matter, even though it has a different name in each region, and sometimes Rancu the most important reference is the scientific name. Because the function of the scientific name is to unify the many mentions of the names of different species in each region.

Oh yes, in Indonesia itself there are four names of Weasel Species that are included in the list of protected animals. Three species belong to the family Viverridae and one from the subfamily Prionodontinae.

In addition to the four species such as the Pandan weasel, the root civet, and the Moon weasel, the Rase civet and other civet species can still be kept.
